It's about time

The scriptures say that "a little child shall lead them". It has been my experience that our children have always been the inspiration and driving force in my life. They are collectively headed in the right direction. Take for example computers.

I have been involved with computers since Bill Gates was in the 6th grade (he of course has made more money off of them than I). I don't believe any of my children can remember a time when we didn't have a computer in the home. And yet they have preceded me in taking advantage of the computer to "write our family history". Even my sweet wife, Sherry, who has difficulty turning on a computer, has preceded me in setting up a "blog".

While I have intended for years to record my life's history, it wasn't until my children started "blogging" that I realized the obvious. The Lord has given mankind the computer to allow their history to be recorded. It is from this record that the "books will be opened" and then read in the last days.

This morning I repent and shall "take delight" in sharing with my family the blessing of the Lord in our lives and bearing my testimony and witness of "his hand in all things". I hope all of my family, old and young, will contribute to this important effort.

  1. I am so excited that you are doing this!! My kids love reading the family blogs and really feel like they get to know our long distance relatives threw daily ramblings and story telling. Can I start you off with a request??? "Tell us a homestead story Daddy, Pleeease!"

  2. I'm with Amanda Dad! I want some homestead stories! I wish my memory was better! I try and repeat the stories to my boys and it's so difficult! I don't remember any of the details, just the gist.

I used your recent hospital experience in a talk a gave yesterday in Sacrament meeting.

    It was something like this...

"My dad is the father of 10 children, grandfather to 30, a faithful member of the church and a devoted husband. Last week he was taken to the emergency room with symptoms of a stroke. As the news passed through our family we were alarmed and worried. What would we do if we lost Dad?

Thankfully his diagnosis was not serious, but the experience certainly caused us all to question our mortality. Dad made calls the next day to each of his children and spoke at length with us. There are things yet undone in his life, advice he has yet to give, stories to tell, and action he desires to take."

Dad... I love you. I want to hear your stories and your advice!

My talk was on Alma's instruction that this life is the time to prepare to meet God. You may be prepared, but we haven't learned all we can from you yet!

I hope that doesn't sound too sappy or corny.

I am looking forward to reading your blog!

  4. Welcome to the blogging world daddy!
I am so excited that you are going to start recording your history. I agree with the other sisters about homestead stories. I don't think I ever get them quite right when remembering them. I love you so much and I thank Heavenly Father everyday that you are still with us.
